Japan's
cities are famous for their many youthful clans. This girl passed me on
a crossing in Sapporo, dressed from head to toe in white lace and pale
makeup. I believe she's known as a Yamamba, named after a witch-like figure
in Japanese fairy tales, although maybe she was just going to a fancy
dress party. Speaking of clans and styles of dressing though, the one
thing which really stood out in Sapporo locals were the vast number wearing
wooly hats. I know it can get chilly up there in Hokkaido, but this was
definitely a fashion trend rather than necessity when we visited! Fortunately
I rarely leave home without my wooly hat, so blended in just fine!
