You wait all day then three bullet trains come at once! Actually the JR system is so efficient, you literally have to wait no more than a few minutes for a train which could transport you across the country in a matter of hours. Bullet train is Shinkansen in Japanese and each of the main routes has a different style of train; the newest trains are employed for the Tokaido / San-yo Shinkansen route which runs from Tokyo to Hakata.
