A visit to Tortuguero has plenty of opportunities for zipping along the labyrinth-like river network. This is one of my favourite photos, and sums up the region with blue skies, palm trees, and murky water, allegedly teaming with nasties! Perched mere inches above the surface, it was very tempting to dip your hand in, although the locals visually indicated this could be like the scene in Jungle to Jungle where Tim Allen does the same and ends up with a piranha clutching to the end of his finger.
